چکیده
An automated micromethod for measuring iron concentration in serum employing thioglycollic acid and bathophenantroline sulphonate as reducing agent and chromogen respectively, is described. Measurements are carried out using an AutoAnalyzer (Technicon) and require 0.1 ml of sample. The reproducibility, assessed by the mean coefficient of variation (1.9%), and the mean recovery of iron added to samples (99.5%), as well as the correlation between the serum iron values estimated by the described method and the method recommended by the Expert Panel on Iron of the International Committee for Standardization in Haematology (r = 0.9779; p < 0.001; y = 0.9713 x -0.0546), is highly satisfactory. The method can also be used for measuring total ironbinding capacity of serum. The method appears equally suitable for routine work and research studies when a large number of samples and a small volume of serum are available.

Semi-automated micromethod for estimating the unsaturated iron-binding capacity of serum using radioactive iron.
A semi-automated micromethod for the determination of the unsaturated iron-binding capacity (UIBC) of serum using radioactive iron and magnesium carbonate as an adsorbing substance is presented. The method has the advantage of simplicity and speed. The determination of UIBC is carried out on 0.1 ml of serum in duplicate, using autodiluters, at the rate of up to 200 sera per day. The reproducibi...
متن کاملAutomated determination of serum (plasma) and urine iron: a comparative investigation of chromogens improved tripyridyltriazine micromethod.
Four different, well known colour reagents for iron determination were tested in a citrate buffer at pH 2.0 under the same automated standard conditions and compared with a manual reference method on human serum and plasma samples. Specific results were obtained only with the chromogen tripyridyl-s-triazine. A micromethod was developed, which is generally well suited for automated, direct serum...
متن کاملMicromethod for determining total iron-binding capacity by flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
Because of the large quantities of venous blood required, assays of total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) and serum iron are often omitted in diagnostic tests involving small children. As an alternative to the conventional method of assessing TIBC, we developed a micromethod based on flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry (flameless AAS). Additionally, the standard microproc#{233}dure for d...
متن کاملA novel chemical method for measuring ketone bodies in subclinical ketosis
Backgrounds: Subclinical ketosis can cause greater economic loss due to a lack of clinical symptoms. Objectives: The present study was aimed to design a chemical method for measuring serum ketone bodies in the affected subclinical cows. Methods: Acetoacetate concentrations were measured using a nitroprusside reaction and b-hydroxy butyric acid (BHBA) which was oxidized to acetoacetate using nan...
متن کاملSimple spectrophotometric methods for quantification of modafinil using 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate and 2,4-dinitrophenol as analytical reagents
Two simple visible spectrophotometric methods are developed and validated for the quantification of modafinil using 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonic acid (NQS method) and 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP method) as analytical reagents. The NQS method involves the reaction of modafinil with 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonate in alkaline medium at room conditions to form a yellow colored product exhibiting maxi...
